3D Modeling Tinkernauts

Learn to design in 3D and discover the endless possibilities! Students will learn the widespread applications for 3D models from architecture and manufacturing to jaw-dropping virtual reality experiences that are revolutionizing how we live. Young tinkernauts will work with Tinkercad’s simple design tools as they are taught how 3D modeling can be used in augmented and virtual reality, video games like Minecraft, or 3D printing. This course offers students foundational knowledge in 3D modeling and an opportunity to build a translatable and valuable digital skill!

Hardware Requirements: Personal Computer. Must be able to log into Zoom and Google Classroom.Recommended in addition to PC: iPad or iPhone with iOS Tinkercad app

Material Requirements: None

Grade Levels: 2nd,-3rd,  4th-5th

Robotics: Roll into Sphero

Join us as we welcome, Sphero, into our STAR lineup of robots! Junior Roboticists will work with an experienced robotics instructor to learn how multiple sensors work together to bring this perfectly round robot to life. They will be taught how to program sensors to test for an array of environmental factors such as free falling, collision, and max velocity. Using that data, students will program Sphero to be smarter, faster, and more nimble while learning fundamental programming skills. Sphero mini robot required for this class. Must be purchased separately.

Hardware Requirements: Computer/ Tablet with Bluetooth Connectivity.   

Software Requirements: Chrome Browser and Sphero EDU App

Material Requirements: Sphero Robot

STAR Chess

Increase your brainpower as you join with friends to learn and play one of the world's most popular and beloved games -- now in STAR’s new virtual world! STAR Chess is for ALL levels of play where children are free to discover the sport at their own pace. Through digital lessons, students will learn chess fundamentals through fun and memorable methods that focus on the power of each individual piece and how they work together. Students will advance their play through practice tournaments.

Hardware Requirements: Computer/Tablet. Must be able to access Zoom and Google Classroom.

Intro to Minecraft 

STAR Minecraft is now online! Come and enjoy the fascinating world of Minecraft, the most popular video game of this generation, endorsed by gamers, children, and educators! Intro to Minecraft is specially designed for 1st-2nd graders who will learn how to mine, craft, build, and survive in a safe environment with fellow STAR students. Now, you too can discover why Minecraft is considered a powerful learning tool for computer literacy, teamwork, problem-solving, and creative expression! NOTE: This class is best suited for younger students (1st-2nd). Note: Due to server limitations, each class is strictly limited to 10 students. Note: Students must have a Windows, Macintosh, or Linux PC capable of running Minecraft Java Edition (No Chromebooks!!!!!). If you do not own a copy of Minecraft Java Edition, your student can use one of our STAR Minecraft accounts for the duration of the class. Note: Unfortunately, students cannot participate in this class using the phone, tablet, or console version of Minecraft.

Windows, Macintosh, or Linux PC capable of running Minecraft Java Edition
(No Chromebooks!!!!!).

Settlers of the Lonely Mesa

Journey through an online survival adventure in a harsh land! The wind-swept red sandstone of the Lonely Mesas stretches out before you. A harsh and unforgiving land, survival here is difficult, thanks to the lack of water and trees, the hostile mobs, and the infertile soil. But with the help of your teacher and your fellow Minecrafters, you can master this harsh environment and turn it into a thriving community! Minecraft students learn computer literacy skills, teamwork, problem-solving Note: Due to server limitations, each class is strictly limited to 10 students.
