Thank to Dr. Conrad, Tuffy is feeling much better now.Surgery Successful!
World Class Bobcat Meets World Class Surgeon and Activist
Our amazing bobcat "Tuffy" recently had surgery for reconstructive paw repair, and STAR ECO Station is thrilled to announce the success of the operation! Tuffy came to the ECO Station in 2006, rescued from an environment that condoned the declawing of these wild felines. His paws were left deformed by this procedure, during which both the claws and the bones are removed from the animal's paw, impairing his ability to climb, mark territory and defend himself. Perhaps more unjust, however, is the pain it caused him.
The surgeon who performed the operation was none other than the incredible Jennifer Conrad, DVM and Director of the Paw Project. She has quite an extensive résumé, including her work with endangered species in Africa and being the vet on call to examine a hyena before its appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”. She cleared time between filming shoots for Animal Planet in order to operate on Tuffy.
The ECO Station feels truly lucky to have her as a resource, using her skills to give our much-adored bobcat the best possible care.
Declawing is a cruel and unnecessary practice, and one that people like Jennifer Conrad and organizations like the STAR ECO Station are helping to eradicate.
