LANGUAGE ARTS

Adventures Through Literature!:  Students travel through time and space as they become characters in literary adventures.  This assembly motivates students to read independently as they discover the magic of literature.

Shakespeare: What is He Talking About?:  Your auditorium becomes the Globe Theater as students themselves become actors in a Shakespeare play!  This assembly has been used by school districts as a special event for GATE students.

History Brought to Life: Take your students on a journey through time by inviting George Washington, Thomas Jefferson or Thomas Edison to relive history at your school!

SCIENCE

Science vs. Magic: The hand is quicker than the eye, but did you know that all magic tricks are based on science? Students learn magic tricks, but the real lesson is that science is magical!

Rainforest on Wheels:  STAR Eco Station, an Exotic Wildlife Rescue Facility, brings live animals from the rainforest to your school for a wild time learning about rainforests, endangered wildlife, and the importance of protecting our environment.

Health and Fitness NEW!:  Students will test their senses while exploring their inner workings.  The Health and Fitness Mobile Exhibit is a hands-on, real-science experience that is both fun and educational!

Real Science NEW!: Students will take a guided tour through our galaxy, discovering solar systems and plants till they land back on Earth where they learn about photosynthesis plants and discover how herbivores, carnivores and omnivores fit into the scheme of “life”.

Fun with Flight: Experience birds of prey as they soar above your head in free flight! Feel the excitement of a living peregrine, kestrel falcon, and a great horned owl, and learn about their biology, history, mathematics of flight and more.

AMERICA & LATIN HERITAGE

Ancient Mexico: Take a musical journey through Northern, Central and Southern Mexico and learn about the diverse styles and instrumental ensembles of this ancient nation.  This assembly introduces students to the regions, language, food, culture and customs of Mexico and culminates in an advanced orchestra of the Maya.

The Amazon:  Play and sing music from all the countries that border the great Amazon River.  Students create a rainforest soundscape using all indigenous instruments, participate in a visualization exercise and are introduced to the family of instruments called panpipes.

Ancient California:  Discover the rarely-heard sounds of the people who lived where our homes, schools and stores now stand!  Students explore musical traditions from the coast to the mountains to the deserts of The Golden State, using all hand-made instruments indigenous to California.

The Americas: Travel through North, Central and South America with a duo that performs using the instruments of indigenous people.  Highly interactive!  Our uplifting musical repertoire includes:  Mexican Indian and rancheras, Plains Indian, Navajo, Californian Indian, Paraguayan folk songs, Cumbia, rainforest soundscape, Bolivian and Peruvian folk music and much more!  We bring a vast museum of instruments to our programs!

CREATIVE MUSIC

Hip-Hop Poetry:  The excellent showmanship of Angelo Francois combines music, poetry, hip-hop, improvisation and storytelling.  It will uplift your students and help them think critically in a medium that is both cool and contemporary.

World Music NEW:  Travel around the world with our musician, accomplished in the instruments and styles of North Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean.  Your students will be enriched by this opportunity to explore the history, culture and exotic music of these regions.

Celtic Song & Dance: Students will clap out rhythms of a jig, a reel and sing along to Irish and Scottish songs once played by farmers, pirates, soldiers and settlers.  They will also learn a simple Irish step dance and explore how Celtic music evolved and became the roots of American bluegrass and country.

Music Through the Ages:  Go back to the roots of modern-day music and learn how music has evolved through the ages.  It’s surprising, educational, entertaining and interactive!

DIVINE DANCES OF THE WORLD

Bollywood Indian Dance NEW: Exquisitely-dressed dancers introduce students to the intricate movements of Indian dance.  Each movement has meaning and tells a classic story of India.

Dance Fandango:  This interactive assembly presents the world’s cultures and people as represented in their dance, including traditions from Israel, Africa, Russia, Turkey, Romania, Greece and more!

Flamenco NEW:  Flamenco Los Angeles presents the authentic dances of Spain and Mexico in beautiful costumes to the rhythmic music of Sevilla, the Basque country, Michoacan and other regions.  Storytelling about the origins and meaning of each dance will be presented as well as the traditions brought by the first settlers from Spain and Mexico.  Ole!

Polynesian Dance NEW:  Polynesian dancers in traditional dress perform to the music of Hawaii, Tahiti and Fiji while introducing students to the rich culture and history of Polynesia.

AFRICAN, AFRO-CARIBBEAN & AFRO-LATIN HERITAGE

African Drum Fest:  Fill your auditorium with the vibrant sounds of African drums and rhythm!  This interactive assembly imparts the rich cultures of Africa and the importance of drumming in social interaction, as well as the many sizes, shapes, sound qualities and rhythms of the drum, which has evolved over many centuries.

Drumspirit/African Dance NEW: Featuring high energy dancing, powerful drumming, songs and African storytelling, this assembly is highly interactive with lots of student participation.  Students also learn about Africa’s rich history and culture through this exciting presentation.  Matsemala Camara and Teresa Uzuri have studied the authentic dances and drumming of Senegal, Mali, Guinea and the Caribbean Islands.

Discover South Africa:  The Discover South Africa program combines interactive teaching, music and theater to explore South Africa’s geography, history, wildlife and culture.  This fun-filled assembly engages every student in a unique, memorable and exciting learning experience.

Steel Drums: Island History & Rhythms:  This interactive assembly is a colorful mix of Caribbean history, music and culture.  Our presenter is one of the most talented and versatile entertainers in today’s steel drum genre.

Capoeira Brazil:  Capoeira, a fascinating martial art that evolved in Brazil but finds its roots in Africa, combines acrobatics and creativity into an amazing, high-energy display of agility and strength.  Presenters share the moves, history and philosophy of this mental and physical discipline in their engaging interactive performance.

MULTI-CULTURAL STORYTELLING

Aztec Stories:  This interactive assembly weaves the history of Mexico’s native people through songs and stories of true events, recounted from the Mexican/Aztec perspective.  Students hear stories in English and Nahuatl, the Aztec language. 

Native American Music & Storytelling: A brilliant musician, storyteller and teacher narrates evocative legends that remind us of our relationship to the earth and one another and teaches us about Native American culture, music and geography.

Stories, Music & Dance of Africa:  This assembly is replete with colorful costumes, powerful rhythms, songs and energetic dances.  Traditional stories, songs, drumming and educational games of Africa come to life.  This interactive assembly epitomizes creativity, excitement and inspiration.

CREATIVE PERCUSSION

Street Beat:  The ultimate two-man drum show.  With its LA vibe and look, this is a duo bursting with energy using recycled objects like garbage cans, pots and gadgets as instruments.

Latin Percussion:  A dazzling array of instruments, including bongos, congas, shakers, chimes, triangles, tubes and whistles bring Latin beats and rhythms to your auditorium!  This assembly includes an overview of Latin history, music, and culture.

Taiko Drums:  This group “On Ensemble” presents exciting, traditional Japanese drum music while creating a contemporary world fusion sound.  Our performers beautifully combine elements of folk, jazz and rock.

THEATER ARTS

Wow! Magic!:  Our magician’s assembly will leave both children and teachers gasping.  Expect lots of audience participation, laughs and miracles that will make students wonder how he did it.  Also included are motivational messages on the subject of the school’s choice.

Blackstreet Puppet Theater:  Award-winning puppet master Gary Jones transforms your auditorium or classroom into a magical theater environment with this interactive puppet performance that celebrates cultural diversity.

Mime Time NEW:  Krassimir is a world-class mime performer who has learned from the greats.  He gives a brief history of how mime came into being, while his expressive style will delight and challenge each student’s imagination.

INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS

Rainforest Workshop: This is the STAR ECO Station’s Rainforest on Wheels assembly adapted to an individual interactive classroom workshop for 40 students or less.

Hand-Made Instruments NEW:  This fun and educational workshop instructs students to make their own instruments that they can sing along with.  Using banjos, fiddles and guitars, Kenny Kline will also explore the history of American music, including country and blues.
